The Autumn Statement included a package of support for the cost of living including a freeze in fuel duty, a freeze in Council Tax, and the extension of free child care for two year olds.
Commenting, Neil Parkin said " Families will welcome the action taken in the Autumn Statement to help with the cost of living. Action on fuel duty, freezing Council Tax, and extending free childcare to disadvantaged 2 yr olds will provide real help to struggling families."
Paul Yallop added "The basic state pension will rise by £5.30 to £107.45 per week. This is the largest ever cash increase."
The Conservative led government will be introducing a "Youth Contract" worth £940m. This includes 160,000 wage incentives to encourage firms to employ young people; at least 40,000 incentive payments for small firms to take on young apprentices; and offer of work experience or training for every unemployed 18-24 yr old after 3 months on jobseekers allowance.
