The much-awaited works to improve the quality of the road surface in Queensway in Lancing will get underway later this month.
The works, which will start on Monday 21 September, are being carried out in response to concerns raised by residents and businesses about the quality of the carriageway which had become damaged and unstable due to its regular use by lorries.
Following discussions with West Sussex County Council, which is responsible for maintaining the roads, Adur District Council made the decision to undertake the work, which will take up to five weeks to complete.
Cllr Brian Boggis, Executive Member for Regeneration for Adur District Council, said:
“We’ve listened to what local residents and businesses have said about the need for the improvement works. We didn’t feel that the solution suggested by West Sussex County Council to tarmac the road was the right approach for Queensway. We therefore decided to undertake the work ourselves to maintain the look and feel of the area.”
