A rigorous programme of projects are taking place across Worthing to ensure the town looks bright and beautiful - and is ready for the new season and post-lockdown life.
From new seafront amenities, to enchanting flower displays, to replacing, repainting and sprucing up external elements, an army of workers are making improvements all over the area.
Worthing Borough Council is striving to ensure the town looks its best and has much to offer locals, as lockdown restrictions ease into the Summer.
The Worthing Observation Wheel (WOW) is back and operating, offering panoramic views to all visitors.
A seasonal concessions programme has also began, meaning up to 30 businesses are providing food, drink, merchandise and leisure activities, such as watersports, along the promenade.
Accessible barbecue stands have been installed at Beach House Grounds, and new exhibitors will be placed at the Council's outdoor exhibition sites at West Buildings Shelter, and the Gabions, opposite the Lido.
The Council is sourcing Covid-compliant events to ensure activity can return to the town centre, where flowers are a big focus in the lead up to summer. A town centre bedding scheme has been created so bright and beautiful displays can be installed.
The Southern Pavilion on Worthing Pier will be subject to a number of external decorations, along with other elements of the area, including the railings and walls along the promenade, parade shelters, and toilets.
Across the wider area, Worthing Borough Council will be working with partners to provide Safer Town Centres support to local businesses.
Four parades outside the town centre are being given a makeover as the Council commits to investing in the local communities that have become more popular throughout the pandemic.
Works have already commenced at Goring Road East, Broadwater, Kings Parade in Findon Valley and The Strand in Durrington and include jet washing, repainting, and street furniture replacements.
The Council will also be supporting the return of outdoor running events, including the Three Forts Challenge, South Downs Way 50, West Worthing 5k and 10K and Worthing Parkrun.
All water-based operations have been tested and are ready to launch, the Splash Pad has been cleaned through and tested and swim zones and markers within the sea are ready to be deployed.
Across parks and environmental services, the authority is busy planning a number of improvements - while others have already begun.
An activities programme across the parks is being put together, so visitors, including families, can step out and enjoy our green spaces and learn about the nature and wildlife that lives within them.
Similarly, an adventure pack is being developed to help people engage with the coastal landscape.
Wildflower areas have been spot weeded and are ready for new growth to fill these areas.
And the ever-popular Highdown Gardens will reopen on 2nd June 2021, following £1 million of Heritage Lottery Fund work to protect the plant collection and enhance the visitor experience.
