East Worthing and Shoreham MP and former Children’s Minister, Tim Loughton has agreed to oversee the work of a new steering group which is researching and analysing the UK’s relationship with the EU.
Since its creation last September, the Fresh Start Project (FSP) has been carrying out detailed research on all aspects of the UK’s relationship with the EU, as the first stage of a process leading to the publication of the FSP’s 'Manifesto for Change'. This document will set out specific recommendations for reform of the UK’s relationship within the EU so that its membership better serves the interests of the British people. It will comprise the work of experts among Conservative MPs, MEPs and Peers to support the Government in developing a reform package, and FSP's aspiration is that it will form a key component of the Conservative Party’s 2014 Manifesto for the EP elections.
Andrea Leadsom MP and fellow Co-Founders Chris Heaton Harris and George Eustice last week announced the names of ten Conservative Colleagues who will be co-ordinating the consultation on individual sections of the FSP’s Draft Manifesto.
Commenting on the announcement, Tim said:
‘I am delighted to be involved and oversee the work of this exciting new project. It has long been a concern of mine and Conservative Colleagues that the UK is not extracting the best possible relationship from the EU and the FSP will be instrumental in researching and expressing how Britain could get a better deal from its membership.
In these uncertain times for the EU, it is imperative that the FSP builds on the momentum which it has generated over the last year.’
