Tim Loughton MP said: It is hard to believe that it is 5 years since that fateful summer’s day in August when 11 men in the wrong place at the wrong time through no fault of their own tragically lost their lives in the Shoreham Air Show disaster. The tragedy was felt far and wide and will always be part of Shoreham’s history. But it is also important to remember the extraordinary way the local community rallied round and came out in force to show their empathy and solidarity with the families of the victims, including raising £200,000 to help support them through that difficult period.
We remember also the incredible contribution and sensitivity of the emergency services who dealt so professionally on the day and in dealing with the aftermath. More difficult has been the prolonged delay in providing some form of closure for the families who have endured the pain of numerous reports and a criminal trial but not yet the formal coroner’s inquest postponed again until next year because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
At this difficult time we again commemorate with sadness those who tragically lost their lives; we extend our support and sympathies to the families of the victims and we remember with pride the contribution of the local community and emergency services.
