Homeowners in Adur and Worthing are invited to register their interest for a new scheme to install high quality solar power at a reduced price.
Solar Together Sussex, which is open for applications until Tuesday 6th October 2020, is designed to help homeowners generate their own renewable energy, save money on their electricity bills and cut their carbon emissions.
At present, gas and electricity use in homes accounts for 38% of carbon emissions in Adur and Worthing - this equates to 260 kilo tonnes per year. By installing solar panels and generating zero carbon electricity at home, the average household could reduce their annual carbon footprint by approximately one tonne each year. In 2019, Adur & Worthing Councils declared a climate emergency and has committed to become carbon neutral across Adur and Worthing by 2050.
Solar Together Sussex is being run in conjunction with councils across Sussex and is coordinated by West Sussex Council. It uses a group buying approach to secure significant saving on solar panel installations from accredited contractors.
Homeowners should register their interest by Tuesday 6th October 2020 on the Solar Together website. They will then be sent a cost proposal and asked to decide if they wish to proceed with the installation.
Cllr Dan Humphreys, Leader of Worthing Borough Council, said:
“We're delighted to be working with other councils in Sussex to offer homeowners the chance to take advantage of the cost savings that can be achieved through this group buying scheme, and help cut the carbon emissions that are generated through electricity use in homes.”
