Lockdown is lifted and although we are not out of the woods by any means Adur & Worthing Councils today launches a WinterWelcomeAW campaign to help residents get out and about safely.
Our communities have been placed in the government's Tier 2, which means that people can meet outdoors in socially distanced groups of six while entertainment, gyms and leisure facilities can re-open.
In addition retailers can open their doors again and in an effort to help businesses yet again emerging from partial hibernation the Councils are helping residents feel confident about returning outdoors and to our town centres. It also wants to help local businesses online in the run up to the festive season.
These lifebloods of our communities need all the help they can get so Councils are doing all we can to make our town centres as attractive as they can be.
As part of our WinterWelcomeAW campaign we will be:
- Detailing special activities taking place in the run-up to the festive period;
- Profiling local businesses waiting to serve you either on their premises or to your home;
- Providing details of competitions and activities so that families can enter the seasonal spirit;
- Giving advice for health and wellbeing outdoors, including details of walks and activities;
- Rounding up what can be done in the cultural and sporting fields at a time of year when our wellbeing is under particular strain
The Councils will be continuing to back strong messaging round safety during the pandemic, including social distancing, mask wearing, but is also actively working on recovery issues to help our economy bounce back.
In a joint statement, Cllr Neil Parkin, leader of Adur District Council, and Cllr Daniel Humphreys, leader of Worthing Borough Council, said:
“We recognise that there is still so much doubt and anxiety around at the moment especially as that time for seeing friends and families during the festive season is around the corner.
“We know there are some residents who wish to stay at home or who are shielding and there are others looking to get out and about again safely in the fresh air.
“With that in mind we want to encourage safe outdoor activity that both helps with health and well being and supports the many businesses in our communities who are desperately struggling and need a good Christmas trading period to stay afloat.
“WinterWelcomeAW will be a short, sharp campaign to inform people about what we are doing to aid recovery, what our residents can do in the open air and how they can safely support our traders while bringing a bit of much-needed festive spirit back to our town centres and high streets.”
The Councils' social media platforms and website will, over the next few weeks, detail activities and offers on a regular basis. Look out for the #WinterWelcomeAW hashtag and logo.
