Local businesses are invited to apply for one of the popular outdoor trading spaces in Adur and Worthing, as the application process opens today for the summer season, which runs from April to September.
The number of trading pitches under Adur & Worthing Councils' seasonal concessions programme has been increased this year to encompass a wider range of activities. The move is intended to bring vibrancy to the area while giving local start-up and existing businesses a platform to operate safely during the COVID pandemic.
This year, the Councils hope to attract applications from a wide range of food and drink traders, as well as a new focus to attract the leisure, arts and crafts sector.
The deadline for applications, which need to be submitted online, is Monday 22nd February 2021.
Priority will be given to traders that are ready to operate from 1st April, already have a vehicle to trade from and, for food and refreshment sellers, have been given a hygiene rating. Applicants will also be asked to provide information about their sustainability and waste management practices in line with the Councils' commitment to be Carbon Neutral by 2030. Successful applicants will be informed by the end of March.
Last summer's traders, which benefited from high footfall numbers on the long stretch of seafront between Goring and Southwick, included stone baked pizza, seafood, cream teas, vegan street food and water sports activities. To support businesses to continue to trade safely in 2020, the seasonal concessions programme was extended into the winter months.
Cllr Kevin Jenkins, Executive Member for Regeneration for Worthing Borough Council, said:
“The pop-up food and drink traders have been a much-welcomed addition to our seafront and towns during lockdown, serving refreshment in a safe and socially-distanced way to local residents when taking exercise. We're looking forward to welcoming traders to our seafront this summer and providing a wider offer for everyone.”
